The name CJC-1295 on its own more often refers to the DAC form, in which the peptide carries a maleimidopropionic linker that binds serum albumin. That is a larger molecule: the public record lists it at about 3647 g/mol, PubChem CID 91971820, CAS 446262-90-4. Two molecules, one abbreviation, roughly 280 daltons apart. The first question to put to any listing is therefore which of the two it is describing, and the answer that settles it is a mass rather than a name.
The parent compound has been described in the endocrinology literature since the mid-2000s - one early report appeared in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in 2006 (PubMed 16352683). The D-alanine at position 2 is a non-natural residue, and its presence or absence is not visible in a mass spectrum alone, because a D-amino acid weighs exactly what its L-form weighs. The C-terminus is an amide rather than a free acid, which is a difference of one dalton against the acid form and is the sort of thing a careless synthesis gets wrong.
Neither point can be settled by a purity percentage. Both are settled by a certificate that names the method, reports the measured mass beside the theoretical 3367.90 g/mol and shows the chromatogram.
Regulatory status in the UK and the European Union
Neither form holds a marketing authorisation. Nothing under either name appears in the EMA medicines database. In the UK, regulation 46 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 prohibits selling, supplying or offering an unauthorised medicinal product, and regulation 2 defines a medicinal product partly by presentation: what the seller says about a substance can bring it inside the definition without the substance changing.
